About

Service first. Aviation always.

From naval service overseas to the flight deck and the classroom, Kenneth E. Morris has spent his career pairing operational discipline with a commitment to bringing others up with him.

Kenneth E. Morris is an aviation professional based in Houston, Texas — and a native Houstonian, born and raised in the Fifth Ward. He was raised by his grandmother, moved between schools through middle and high school, and had never met a pilot. Aviation wasn't a career he could see; basketball was the dream.

That changed outside the gates of Jones High School, when a Navy recruiter stopped to talk to him. Kenneth studied for the ASVAB, needed a 35 to pass, and scored a 77. When he asked about the job that involved flying and hunting submarines, he was told he should be a cook instead — that ninety percent of people who tried that job failed. He chose it anyway.

He served as a U.S. Navy Naval Combat Aircrewman and Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems Operator — Acoustic, tracking diesel and nuclear submarines by their acoustic signatures aboard the P-3C Orion. He was eighteen the first time he took the controls of an aircraft. His service was recognized with the NATO Medal, the Kosovo Air Campaign Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, and the Good Conduct Medal.

After the Navy, Kenneth carried the same standards into aviation education. As Founding Director of Education and Outreach at the $40M Lone Star Flight Museum in Houston from 2016 to 2019, he built and led programming that connected students and families to careers in flight.

Then he made the hardest decision of his career: he resigned a stable executive role to chase the license itself. A single father, he moved hundreds of miles from his family support to attend flight school full time, drove Uber to cover the bills, and studied at night and in the early mornings. In 2019 he was selected as a pilot cadet in the U.S. Department of Transportation's Forces to Flyers program, the federally supported program that trains military veterans as commercial pilots, and completed his training at U.S. Aviation Academy in Denton, Texas. He has since flown single- and multi-engine aircraft across the Gulf Coast, completed the ATP-CTP course, and is completing Advanced Ground Instructor credentials (2027).

Across twenty-five years in the industry, his work has been recognized with the FAA Dr. Ron McNair Bronze Eagle Award, Congressional Recognition in Aviation and Aerospace, a Veteran Resilience Award, and an Aviation Author Award for his careers coloring book. From 2022 to 2024 he served as a Key Influencer for the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. He is a 2026 TEDx speaker and a 2026 Martin Luther King, Jr. Honoree for the Houston MLK Unity Parade.

Today Kenneth is the former Executive Director of the Aviation Community Foundation, serves on the board of STEM Flights, is a member of the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, and joins the Aviation Industry Advisory Board in the Ricciardi College of Business at Bridgewater State University — while speaking, consulting, writing, and mentoring the aviators who come next.

"You don't have to come from a legacy to leave one. Sometimes, all it takes is one person to break the pattern — and fly anyway."
